Dive into the world of Slapstick and Physical Comedy! You’ll be guided through a sequence of units designed to deepen your understanding of the subject matter and eventually bring you to the creation of your own slapstick and physical comedy routine - suitable for both live performance and video or film. This particular course invites you to consistently test your skills as a performer and continually send in practical materials for review.

The 10 units are done at your own pace. You will meet virtually with the instructor several times during the course for private dedicated sessions. There will be some project and preparation work between meetings. It's super flexible, fun and personalized. At the end of the journey, you will receive a Certificate of Completion from us. 

The Curriculum:

• Unit 1 — Physical Comedians - examine the artists, goofs, and pratfallers who are the inspiration for this program!

• Unit 2 — Rhythm and Timing - learn and practice the beats of physical comedy

• Unit 3 — Escalation - one of the fundamental ingredients in all comedy

• Unit 4 — The Tangle - a practical exercise and a glorious metaphor combined into one subject!

• Unit 5 — Surprise - reversals, shock outcomes, and plain absurdity rule in this delicious unit

• Unit 6 — Hierarchy & Status - explore the relationship of physical comedy to the social world around you

• Unit 7 — Mimicry - select a favored routine and adapt it for yourself

• Unit 8 — Character - zero in on your slapstick persona

• Unit 9 — Rehearse Your Original Routine - a guided and supported performance is curated in collaboration with your instructor

• Unit 10 — The Show - present your routine to an audience
